St Nicholas, Moreton, Purbeck.

We visited this beautiful airy church in Dorset last summer. Following on from wartime damage 13 new windows have been engraved by Lawrence Whistler, over some 30 years (1955 - 1985). It is interesting to see how he honed his skill over time. The last window that he made of Judas Iscariot, was initially rejected by the church, with the panel going to a museum instead. Eventually after Lawrence's death the window was installed but not 'allowed inside' the church so the window can only be viewed from the outside, walking around the church until you find it!

The 13th window - a wall is behind this panel making it appear black. you can just make out that Judas is shown hung by his neck and dropping the silver coins.

The church is now closed following the corona virus pandemic but you can still visit the website to find out more here.
