Tower Bridge

It was a pleasure and a privilege to work for Glass Build Design recently, restoring a leaded diamond window for Tower Bridge.

Missing panes were replaced with matching old glass...

Just plain glazing in diaper pattern but from an engineering marvel and one of London's best known icons!

photo courtesy of Frank Bridge - see more of his beautiful work here.

Though Tower Bridge is closed at the moment due to the Corona virus you can find out more about this landmark structure and it's changing programme of exhibitions on their website here.

Colourful celebration

This fanlight was recently completed for a friend I have known since childhood. A design was chosen from a pattern book and the challenge was to find glasses that reflected the uniqueness of a highly skilled (across a range of mediums; ceramics, sculpture, prints, paintings and games design!) and creative home. The glasses chosen were mostly vintage with a mix of handmade, machine made, colour and texture.

Hallway with beautiful colourful paintings by Joan Burr...

St Nicholas, Moreton, Purbeck.

We visited this beautiful airy church in Dorset last summer. Following on from wartime damage 13 new windows have been engraved by Lawrence Whistler, over some 30 years (1955 - 1985). It is interesting to see how he honed his skill over time. The last window that he made of Judas Iscariot, was initially rejected by the church, with the panel going to a museum instead. Eventually after Lawrence's death the window was installed but not 'allowed inside' the church so the window can only be viewed from the outside, walking around the church until you find it!

The 13th window - a wall is behind this panel making it appear black. you can just make out that Judas is shown hung by his neck and dropping the silver coins.

The church is now closed following the corona virus pandemic but you can still visit the website to find out more here.
